Beginning on Wednesday, March 9, parking permits for Phase 2 of the Residential Preferential Parking (RPP) will go on sale, and residents will now be eligible for one permit per address free of charge. Up to three additional residential permits are available at $50 each. To purchase a permit, go to www.cityofpaloalto.org/parking.

Phase 2 expanded the boundaries of the RPP program to include additional streets who petitioned to be included in the program, and to include optional eligibility areas for streets that may wish to opt in in the future. As part of Phase 2, the available employee permits (capped at 2,000) are allocated by zone to balance employee parking distribution in each zone while also accommodating some two-hour visitor parking. Employee permits are valid only within the zone assigned.

Employees can purchase annual parking permits for $466/year, and reduced-cost permits are also available to low-wage employees for $100/year. More detailed maps on each zone and RPP boundaries are available at www.cityofpaloalto.org/parking.

An Employer Information Session will be held on March 16 from 9-11 a.m. in the Community Meeting Room at City Hall. Employers and employees in the Downtown RPP district are invited to attend to learn more about this next phase.

During Phase 1, the City sold about 1,600 annual permits to employees and businesses. The second phase of the RPP pilot begins April 1, and will be in effect for at least a year.
